super/collider's monthly science night returns for 2010 with a polar special. Guests include Nicola Triscott of the Arctic Perspectives Initiative and New Scientist jounalist Anil Ananthaswamy, whose forthcoming book The Edge of Physics to him to Antarctica to see the latest particle physics research – plus polar sounds and soundscapes from DJ John Connell.

Sioc.me: 3D Visualization of Semantic Space

SIOC.ME [sioc.me] is a "real-time interactive visualization of boards.ie semantic data in three-dimensional space". The project was originally submitted for entry to the Boards.ie SIOC Data Competition that, based on over 10 years of online discussion and around 9 million documents, invited submissions to create something which uses the data in an interesting manner.

I need to lay my hands on this little chap. He rolls around making beats, sampling himself and doing it again. He gets robot of the month award for sure.
What it does? Basically:
* Navigate around, collect some data, avoid obstacles, until it
* Finds something "worth playing on" (a single isolated object or a wide flat surface that it can find an angle onto)
* Snakes into place
* Plays some beats on what it have found, and samples this, checking it has a "good sound"
* Based on data collected in the area, and sample just made, then compose a little rhythm, and plays this along with the sample
